Stockton and HealthSouth Team Up on Sports Medicine Video

Stockton and HealthSouth teamed up on an educational video segment titled, "Concussions in Sports".  The video was shot at Stockton on November 12th and featured interviews with Jon Heck, MS, ATC, the Coordinator of Athletic Training at Stockton and Dr. Joe Torg, MD from Hahnemann University.  The project was coordinated by Jason Cook who is based in Birmingham, Alabama with HealthSouth.  The interviews will run on  HealthSouth's "Back to Health Network", and be shown via satellite to HealthSouth's 2,000 locations in all 50 states.  The video will be seen by approximately 125,000 patients daily.

The video was directed toward educating the general public regarding athletic related concussions, which has become a hot topic recently in the media.  Dr. Torg is considered one of the pioneers of "sports medicine" and health care directed specifically toward the competitive athlete.  He has over 200 original research publications in journal, book, and chapter form.  Dr. Torg was interviewed regarding the technical aspects of concussion and brain injury.  He also spoke at the Stockton Sports Medicine Symposium, in July of 1999.  Jon Heck was interviewed regarding Stockton's approach to managing and recognizing concussions in intercollegiate athletes.  The film crew was made up of Jason Cook- Interviewer,  Derek Boyd- Camera, with Vazda Studios, and Shawn Tervenski- Grip.  Both Cook and Boyd, traveled to Pomona from Birmingham, Alabama and Tervenski  made the trip from New York City.  The interviews were shot in the West Quad Building.  The video is expected to run on the Network after April 1, 2000.  The days worth of shooting will be condensed into an 8 minute segment of the Networks 2 hour broadcast.
