Corinne DeVirgilio-
Women's Soccer
|
As
a freshman, Corinne was a starter for the nationally ranked
women's soccer team. She injured her knee at the height of
the season in a home NCAA Playoff game in November of 1998.
While going for a 50-50 ball her knee gave out and she felt a pop.
She was evaluated and removed from the field by the athletic training
staff and diagnosed by Dr. Steve Zabinski with an ACL tear of her
right knee. The team went on to win the game but lost the
following day in the Sweet 16. Corinne then began 4 weeks
of "prehab" to strengthen her knee and increase her range of motion
as much as possible before her surgery. At the end of November
she had the ACL reconstruction performed by her orthopedist Dr.
Hosea at University Orthopedics in New Brunswick NJ. She returned
to Stockton and began her early post-surgical rehab until the end
of the semester. She underwent physical therapy during the
break at home at HealthSouth in Freehold, NJ.
When she returned to Stockton in January she began an intensive
rehabilitation program, five days per week. This continued
for four months until the semester ended. Corinne was probably
the most diligent, dedicated, and hard working student athlete to
ever go through rehab at Stockton. By May she had returned
to sprinting, jumping, hopping, and running activities. She
continued her progression through the summer on her own at home.
She began her return to soccer in the pre-season training camp during
August of 1999. By September she was back on the game field
as a starter for the soccer team. She has made a significant
contribution to another outstanding season for the Women's Soccer
Team who finished 16-4 and won an ECAC Championship. |
