Gorczynski and
Kutch Ready to Return from Injuries
Suzanne
Gorczynski is a senior infielder who is probable to return
to the ECAC softball tournament this weekend. She was playing
third base on March 27th against Staten Island when she was hit
in the face by a line drive. Suzanne suffered three orbital bone
fractures, a nasal fracture and a concussion from the blow. The
seriousness of her injury required an overnight stay in the hospital.
Despite the extent of the fractures she sustained, Suzanne did
not have any damage to her eye. She has been out of play since
3/27 to allow for her orbital fractures to heal.
Gorzynski was the leading hitter on the team in 2007 and a 2nd
Team All NJAC selection. She has remained optimistic in light
of her injury and she has been dedicated to supporting her team
throughout the season. “I was with Suzanne seconds after
she was hit on the field. I have never seen someone so coherent
or calm after that severe of an injury. I believe her positive
outlook and calm demeanor has played a huge role in her healing
process,” said Jessica Spencer, MA, ATC. On May 8th she
was given full clearance by her doctors to start the process of
return to play, which includes testing for her concussion. If
Suzanne passes all of her concussion testing, then she will make
an astounding return to the field on Saturday against Baruch College
Barb
Kutch is set to return to the softball field in time
for their
ECAC Tournament. She is a senior outfielder for the Ospreys. Kutch
has been out with a concussion since 4/7/08. She received the
injury while sliding in a game against TCNJ. She returned to full
practice on 4/30/08 and she has been participating full since.
Kutch had a previous concussion in 2006 while playing softball.
At the time of her injury she was hitting .413 with 11 RBI.
