Culture
tends to become diluted as it is pulled out of its past and woven into
a web of structure which we may set down and study; interpret and act upon.
This was the inevitable transition in ancient Ireland that was considered
the civilized interpretation of a barbaric culture. In the past, and that
is not to say only the past, when a culture or religion and its practices
were not understood, they were deemed barbaric, and by nature, they demanded
civilized interjection. Only the most open minded scholars and missionaries
of the early centuries BC could have recognized the value inherent in the education
attained by understand-ing how a mysterious culture denied or handled
all life's complexities. |
